輪ゴム
カナダでは輪ゴムはelasticと言います。そのままだと「弾力のある」という形容詞なのですが、カナダではこれを輪ゴムという名詞で使います。お隣アメリカでは普通にrubber bandですね。
男性が独身最後の夜を男友達と一緒に過ごすパーティー
こういうパーティーのことをbachelor partyと言いますが、カナダではこれをstagと言います。ちなみに女性バージョンはstagetteと言います。
立ち去る・その場から出る
もちろんleaveで良いのですが、カナダ、特にNew Brunswick州では、head’rと言います。”We’ve gotta head’r.”という感じで使ってみましょう。
Rubber Band
Elastic is elastic, an adjective. However, Canadians use this term for rubber band. How do Americans call elastics? Answer: rubber bands.
Bachelor Party
At a bachelor party, a single man who is getting married next day enjoys the final night as a single man. This party is called stag in Canada. Female version? Stagette.
To Leave
To leave, head out, duck out, or get out of there. In Canada, especially New Brunswick, people say head’r. Say like “we’ve gotta head’r.”
